Phuong

Dear friends,

It is my privilege to write to you. Let me introduce a bit about myself. My name is Phuong. I am working in a university in Ho Chi Minh City as a lecturer. I am a beginner in learning Japanese, and I am very happy if having chance to talk to you in Japanese

I have come to Japan three times thank to the help from the mathematic department, and especially from Prof. Shiro Goto.

One of the most memorable impressions I hold when visited Japan is the time I saw the splendid Fuji Mountain appeared under the dawn’s golden light. What a beautiful scene! It really impressed me. I felt happy so much seeing the Fuji by my own eye from a high altitude when the plane was about to land on Narita airport.

Every person I met in Meiji University is very kind and hospitality. (I feel pleasant even when I reach the entrance because of gentle smiles and greetings from gatekeepers.) One of the people I am deeply indebted is Professor Shiro Goto. My admiration for him grows daily. I really appreciate all the help he has given me. As one of his students, I have learned many valuable lessons, not only the academic knowledge on Commutative Algebra but also the way he kindly treats others. Learning from him, I promise to try treating my students fairly and gently. Furthermore, Professor Shiro Goto also gave me a chance to cooperate with his nice lab. In his lab, everyone is very kind and hospitality, and especially, they work efficiently with intense concentration. Besides, I have opportunities to attend Saturday’s seminars. With these seminars, I can meet some Japannese mathematicians and learn a lot from their lectures.

The library of the department is one of the best ones I have ever seen. It is equipped with various books and journals on mathematics. I feel whatever materials you need is already in this library.

I am also impressed by the Japan’s travel system. The public transports work efficiently and in order. Moreover all passengers are always disciplined and silent, even in rush hour. The roads are in good condition and tidy. (I like roads with Sakura trees on both sides because it is really glorious in springs.)

About the guesthouse, it is really a fantastic place. It is so quiet and peaceful that I can concentrate myself on studying. Moreover, there are enough cooking facilities in the room, so that I can cook tasting Vietnamese meals from local products and sometimes learn to make some simple Japanese meals in Vietnamese style.

(As you have seen,) Japan in my eyes is so nice, although I know the opposite side exists as well. I hope I can know more about Japan, such as Japanese, the peole, the living style while having chances. In a word, thank you very much, for everything!
